Sudan rejects American pressures
Sudan-USA, Politics, 9/9/2002

The Sudanese government announced its rejection to any pressures practiced on it by the USA or other sides to complete the peace negotiations with the Sudan People's Liberation Army/Movement. It indicated that the military cooperation between Sudan and Uganda resulted in negative reflections in the south.

The Sudanese minister of state for foreign affairs Shoul Dinq said that the Sudanese government reacts according to the reality, rather than from pressure from any side. This was expressed in the context of his answer to the threats of the US Congress of imposing sanctions in case the current peace negotiations fail. In statements he made on Sunday, Dinq added that the Sudanese government is inclined to achieving a just and comprehensive peace without pressure.

He indicated that the understanding between Sudan and Uganda was based on the only option -- that of alienating al-Rabb army from the country because of its rejected policies. He said that forces belong to the Sudanese people's defense was attacked by the opposition al-Rabb army. Dinq denied that the Sudanese government knows what confirms Uganda's involvement in the recent attack against Tourit.

However, news reports said on Sunday that Uganda is involved in Tourit incidents by backing the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) led by John Garang. But reports said on Sunday that the opposition al-Rabb army supported the SPLA in the recent attack against the strategic Tourit city.
