Berlin athletic meet: Morocco's Hicham el-Guerrouj wins 1500 m race, golden league

Morocco's athlete Hicham El-Guerrouj won in Berlin Friday the 1500 meter race at the Berlin meet, 7th and last leg of the athletics Golden League.

El-Guerrouj, who clocked 3 min 30 sec, has thus secured his share of the Golden League Jackpot consisting in 50 kg of gold (50 million Euro).

However, The Moroccan champ's final victory will be sealed after his participation in the final of the IAAF Grand Prix to be held in Paris September 14.

This was El-Guerrouj's seventh victory in a row after those scored in the meetings of Oslo, Paris, Rome, Monaco, Zurich and Brussels.

The three-time world champion and 1500 record holder is the first athlete in the world to win the Golden League Jackpot for the third time (after 1998 and 2001).
