Khaddam discuss with Chirac relations and Iraqi crisis

French President Jacques Chirac yesterday in Paris received the Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam. During the meeting, Khaddam conveyed a message from President Bashar al-Assad to the French President Jacques Chirac.

The two sides discussed the grave conditions in the Middle East and their reflections on regional and international conditions and the need to achieve a just and comprehensive peace on the ground of UN security council resolutions 242 and 338.

The two sides also discussed the American threats against Iraq. View points were identical on the need of avoiding military action against Iraq due to the grave consequences that would result and the need to end the problem between Iraq and the UN peacefully.

The situation in Lebanon was also discussed and views were identical on the importance of strengthening security and stability in Lebanon and supporting the Lebanese state in order to deal with all issues of concern to the Lebanese people.
