Iraq-Kuwait, Politics, 9/6/2002
In a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Aam issued on Wednesday, the Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri said that Iraq supports the "establishment of normal relations with Kuwait."
He underlined the importance of joint work between the two states to settle the issues of the prisoners and those missing in the war. Sabri said "restoring normal conditions is in the interests of the two countries." He explained that "Baghdad had stopped any negative acts against Kuwait in the mass media and statements." Sabri continued that Iraq had carried out another step at the level of returning back the Kuwaiti documents and an understanding with the UN on a mechanism to return back these documents to the " Kuwaiti brothers," stressing that the "question of the Kuwaiti missing ... can be solved by direct understanding."
The Iraqi minister expressed hope that the opportunity will be availed for further interaction, contacts and joint work between the two countries with the aim "to restore back relations to normalcy," stressing that "all legal frames exist for the return back of relations to their previous status."
