Bahrain: those who boycott elections are the loosers

The Bahraini minister of information Nabil al-Homor on Wednesday played down the importance that four Bahraini political societies including the Islamic national reconciliation society, which represents the main Shiite trend, its boycott of the parliamentary elections due in October.

Each of the national reconciliation society, the democratic national work society ( a coalition of leftists, nationalists and independents ), the national democratic coalition society ( Baathists nationals), the Islamic work society ( a Shiite society under establishment ) decided not to take part in the parliamentary elections " in order to prevent explaining the understanding as a recognition from its side to the constitutional rules which have no ground in the constitution," according to the text of the joint statement issued on Tuesday.

Al-Homor said that the boycott is a "political decision which will have no consequences on the heart of the matter." Al-Homor said "I do not think that the decision of these societies will greatly affect the elections because the general attitude we feel is quite different.. So far there are 70 persons who announced their readiness to nominate themselves for the elections. The one who boycotts is the looser." The Islamic national reconciliation society achieved a remarkable victory in the municipal elections which was held in May, when almost more than 15 candidates of its members won at the circles of the northern province.
