Sudan, Politics, 9/5/2002

Sudan has denied news which said that financial officials for al-Qaida organization had transported shipments of Gold to Sudan with the aim to transfer al-Qaida's investment activity to Khartoum.

In its Tuesday's issue, the Sudanese al-Sahafi al-Dawli paper quoted the Sudanese minister of the interior Abdul Raheem Hussein saying that these news are false and not objective and aiming at distorting the image of Sudan and its reputation before the world public opinion and foiling peace efforts in it.

He stressed that Sudan had given up terrorism and fought it and has no links with al-Qaida organization, adding that Sudan has introduced tough control on its borders to prevent the leakage of suspicious elements.
