Morocco recovers two wooden doors dating back to xivth, xixth centuries
Morocco, Local, 9/4/2002
Morocco recovered two wooden doors dating back to the XIVth et XIXth centuries that were about to be sold under the hammer in Sotheby's, London.
The Moroccan ministry of Culture and Communication made the necessary legal measures to stop the selling operation when it got wind of it through the International Council of Museums (ICOMS).
A deal was ultimately stricken between the ministry and the owners of the two antiques who accepted Morocco's financial compensation tantamount to the two pieces' acquisition value.
