Iraq-Jordan, Politics, 9/4/2002
The Lebanese daily al-Nahar said yesterday, according to well-informed Arab sources, that search is being made at the meantime for an Arab figure that would play in Iraq a role similar to that played by Elakhder al-Ibraheimi in Afghanistan, as a special envoy for the UN secretary general.
The paper added that in this regard, the former Jordanian prime minister Abdul Karim al-Kabareiti was contacted but he preferred to put off this matter but without rejecting the proposal which was conveyed by UN officials who have links to the American administration.
The paper added that asking al-Kabareiti for this role comes to be the UN representative following an American strike on Iraq, noting that Jordan is a candidate to be the entrance gate for rearranging the aftermath Saddam Iraqi house.
