Egypt-Regional, Politics, 8/31/2002

Cairo has witnessed an intensive diplomatic activity prior to the meetings of the Arab foreign ministers next Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, Somalia's foreign minister Youssef Hassan Ibrahim arrived in Cairo to take part in the meetings and hold talks with the foreign minister Ahmad Maher.

On the sidelines of the meetings, Maher will hold talks with the Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara, the Saudi foreign minister Saud al- Faisal and the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othma Ismael.

On the other hand, the spokesman for the AL secretary general said that the Arab foreign ministers will discuss political, security, economic and development aspects relating to Arab national security.

He indicated that the threats imposed on the Arab states, including Iraq, the deteriorated conditions in the Palestinian territories and the special developments in Sudan will be on top of issues to be discussed by the Arab foreign ministers.
