Lahoud meets Ramadan, warns of Israel promoting strike on Iraq
Lebanon-Iraq, Politics, 8/31/2002
The Lebanese President Emil Lahoud has stressed that the resolution of the Beirut recent Arab Summit conference is the common criterion to which the Arab states hold fast to in facing the current phase in regard to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, or against targeting any Arab states especially Iraq, which showed readiness to cooperate with the UN resolutions.
During his meeting on Friday with the Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan, the Lebanese President denounced the Israeli threats directed against Iraq. He warned against Israel's promoting the implementation of an international decision that will be conducive to striking Iraq, as Israel had already done in subverting the world "terrorism" to strike against the Palestinian Intifada.
President Lahoud said that in his capacity as a president for the Arab summit, he will urge the Arab leaders to practice all sorts of pressures to prevent striking Iraq.
Following the meeting, Ramadan announced he had conveyed a verbal message from the Iraqi president to the Lebanese president relating to the American aggressive threats against Iraq and the Arab nation.
Ramadan stressed that view points were identical regarding the Iraqi position which rejects the aggression and stresses the principle of dialogue through the general secretariat of the Arab League, and to continue the dialogue which was already started without the intervention of other forces.
