Al-Faisal: it is not wise to topple Saddam and install another
Saudi Arabia-Iraq, Politics, 8/30/2002

The US President George Bush has vowed during a meeting he held with the Saudi ambassador to the UN Prince Bandar Bin Sultan to make consultations with Saudi Arabia and other countries before taking any decision concerning a military attack against Iraq. Bush stressed he did not decide yet how to react towards the threat constituted, in his own view, by the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

For his part, the Saudi foreign minister prince Saud al-Faisal said it will not be wise for the international community to try to topple the Iraqi President and install another person instead of him.

Al-Faisal said in an interview with the BBC that the matter is left for the Iraqi people to topple Saddam. He explained its is naive that people believe that they know more than the Iraqis on what is better for their country. He added that his country is careful to maintain the unity and territorial integrity of Iraq.

Meantime, the US defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld announced that the US prefers to get the support of its allies in case of a military interfere in Iraq but it will be ready, if it is needed to carry out a unilateral act.

The US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage stressed in Tokyo that Washington is convinced of the need for getting international support for a military operation in Iraq. He said when we present our case and reasons we expect to get enough international support.
