Straw and the reform process in Syria
Syria-UK, Politics, 8/29/2002

The British foreign office secretary Jacque Straw said in press statement yesterday in London that Britain is working with the Syrian government and provides support for the reform programs in Syria especially in the economic cultural, educational, health, tourism and telecommunications fields.

Straw added that Britain while welcoming the changes taking place in Syria under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad during the two past years, has realized that the change is in need of time, and that Britain will continue to give support wherever it can for the sake of the reform operation in Syria.

Straw continued saying that Britain encourages the Syrian government to work for the sake of peace, and to use its influence with the Lebanese Hizbullah party in order to prevent the escalation of the situation on the Lebanese - Israeli borders.
