Regional, Economics, 8/28/2002

The 93rd session of the general union council of Arab countries' chambers of commerce, industry and agriculture, will begin in Egypt's Sharm Al-Sheikh resort on September 11, Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported on Monday.

Head of the union Khaled Abu Ismaeel, told journalists that chairmen of the unions of Arab countries' chambers of commerce, as well as a number of economic figures in the Arab region, will participate in the two-day session.

Results of the Arab summit's economic decisions will be discussed, as well as the role of Arab private sector in activating those decisions and the current situation of the Arab free trade zone, he added.

He said the council which will also discuss the September 11th negative effects on the Arab states will focus debates on the special efforts concerning the Arab free trade zone.

The issues to be tackled during the 37th conference of Arab states chambers of commerce, industry and agriculture, to be held in Oman next October, will also be on the agenda, he said.

The conference -- to be held under the topic "horizons of the economic, technological development in Arab countries"-- will discuss the role of scientific and technological research in the industrial development and the future options for agriculture in the Arab world, in light of the modern technology.

The conference will also discuss the importance of technology in freeing and developing the commerce of services, as well as the role of banks and financial institutions in financing technological projects.
