Jewish Rabbi: Israeli practices against Palestinians contradicts Judaism
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 8/28/2002
Britain's chief rabbi, Jonathan Sacks, has criticized the Israeli practices against the Palestinian people. He stressed that these practices are in contradiction with the real teachings of Judaism.
In a statement to the British Guardian issued on Tuesday, Rabbi Sacks described the current situation in the region as catastrophic. He said that Israel is proceeding in a catastrophic way that is not in line with the Jewish teachings.
He expressed his shock over the pictures taken for Israeli soldiers laughing near a body of one assassinated Palestinian.
The Jewish Rabbi stressed he is convinced that Israel should return back all Arab lands it occupied in 1967 for attaining peace.
The Guardian, however, described the statements of the Jewish Rabbi as a violation to his continued and open support for Israel. It indicated that Rabbi Sacks in the past avoided, especially since he became a rabbi for the British Jews in 1991 to condemn Israel directly and always tried to appear as a defender of peace.
The Guardian expected that these statements by Rabbi Sacks will raise a wave of anger in Israel and in the circles of the British Jews who support Israel.
