Al- Assad talks with King of Bahrain in Damascus

King of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa arrived in Damascus yesterday on a "fraternal" official visit to Syria.

The King was also welcomed by the two vice Presidents Abdul Halim Khaddam and Zuheir Masharqa, the foreign minister Farouk al-Shara, several ministers concerned and the ambassadors of the Gulf Co-operation Council GCC member states. Then the King accompanied by President al-Assad headed for Teshreen palace the residence of the King.

King Hamad, however is accompanied by a delegation composed of the foreign minister Sheikh Muhammad Bin Mubarak al-Khaleifah, the royal court affairs minister Sheikh Khaled Bin Hamad al-Khaleifa; Sheikh Salman Bin Abdullah Bin Hamad al-Khaleifa and the minister of finance and the national economy Abdullah Bin Hassan Seif., and the King's advisor for cultural and scientific affairs Muhammad Bin Jaber al-Ansari.

President al-Assad and the king held a meeting attended by officials representing the two sides.

In an arrival statement in Damascus, King Hamad said "It pleases us to pay this fraternal visit to our second homeland Syria and to meet with our brother President Bashar al-Assad. This is in the context of our brotherly meetings and the remarkable relations between our two countries." He expressed happiness over the development of bilateral relations between the two states in various economic, fields and the cooperation agreements framed by the joint higher committee between the two states.

He added that this visit comes at a time when the Arab region is witnessing important and critical developments that require the need of taking a united stand concerning them through preserving the region's security and stability and alienating it from dangers and challenges threatening the interests of its people, its growth and prosperity.
