Nearby agreement between Iraq, Russia
Iraq-Russia, Economics, 8/28/2002
The Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan stressed on Tuesday that his country hopes to sign in the nearby future an agreement on economic cooperation with Russia for five years at a value of 40 billion dollars.
The Iraqi weekly al-Rafeydeen quoted Ramadan as saying that the said agreement is a long term one and he had discussed the Russian leadership role during his recent visit to Moscow. He explained that this agreement frames axes of cooperation between the two countries in a future prospect and in a strategic context.
Worthy mentioning that the Iraqi ambassador in Moscow Abbas Khalaf on August 17 in Moscow announced that Russia and Iraq are preparing to sign an economic cooperation agreement. This declaration comes at a time when Washington is making efforts to isolate Iraq and to convince Russia and other countries of the American military intervention against Iraq.
