Some 125 Saudis detained in Guantanamo

The Saudi deputy minister of the interior Prince Ahmad Bin Abdul Aziz has unveiled that there are 125 Saudis arrested by the American base at Guantanamo, Cuba, stressing no charges have been addressed to any of them so far.
In a statement to the Saudi daily Okaz issued on Monday, Prince Abdul Aziz said that his country is making security consultations with the American authorities to release the Saudi Arabian detainees who have no link to al-Qaida, the Bin Laden organization. He added that a Saudi security team had met with all the arrested Saudis in Guantanamo, adding that among the detainees are several very young men who were misled and traveled to Afghanistan without their families' knowledge.
In another statement, the Saudi daily al-Watan disclosed that the Saudi deputy minister of the interior that one of the arrested Saudis under the charge of smuggling missiles into Saudi Arabia is a member of the Saudi military sectors.
In June, the Saudi ministry of the interior announced that members of Saudi and foreign nationalities were arrested while planning to carry out terrorist acts targeting several key positions in Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi official, on the other hand stressed that it was not clear from the current investigations with the Saudis who were arrested by the Saudi authorities since September11 until now that they have direct links to al-Qaida organization. He said that investigations still continue with the arrested Saudis.
As for the Saudis held in Morocco, the Saudi official explained that investigations by the Moroccan authorities are still continuous and that Saudi investigators met with the convicted persons. He added that we can not assess that they are involved in terrorist acts or not. He indicated the security cooperation between the two states, and that information is being exchanged between them concerning the security of the two states in the context of the security agreements and joint cooperation in the field of fighting terrorism.
