Saadat observes hunger strike
Palestine, Politics, 8/27/2002

The secretary general of the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine Ahmad Saadat on Sunday evening started a hunger strike in prison in protest of his continued detention since May despite the decision of the supreme Palestinian court to release him.

Member of the front Jamil Majdalawi said that Saadat started abstention from having food in his prison in Arieha and will decide after 72 hours of his hunger strike whether he will continue his strike or not. Majdalawi added that Saadat asked to meet with the Palestinian authority to discuss with them his detention.

He indicated that the American and British observers behave as if they are the real jailers. He continued that they ( the American and British observers) confiscated his mobile phone and always insult his visitors.

He added that those observers make long investigations about Sadaat's visitors.

For her part, Saadat's wife held the Israeli authorities responsible for her husband's bad health conditions, noting that he refused to take food unless his request is met.
