Egypt: ministry of agriculture official arrested for corruption

Syrian customs confiscates boat of smuggled tobacco
The Syrian naval customs on Friday confiscated a boat carrying 238 containers of smuggled foreign tobacco inside the Syrian territorial waters. There were four Lebanese on the board of the boat, who were arrested and brought before the judiciary for trial.

Al-Watan: a forthcoming Syrian, Egyptian, Saudi summit
The Saudi daily al-Watan said in its Sunday's issue that the two messages sent by President Bashar al-Assad to the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and to Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz unveiled stress to convene a tripartite Syrian, Egyptian and Saudi summit in the second half of September.

Israeli forces kill Arab youth; admit to robbing Palestinian houses before burning them
While one Palestinian young man was shot by the Israeli bullets in Jenin and other three wounded when an Israeli on foot patrol opened fire randomly against the Palestinians in one of the city's market, an Israeli force stormed into Marqa village near Jenin and arrested three of its citizens. The Israeli force also stormed into Salfeit town and arrested five Palestinians under the charges that they are members of the Palestinian activists.

Qatar's foreign minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem Bin jaber al-Thani will head today for Baghdad in a short visit during which he will hold talks with his Iraqi counterpart Naji Sabri al-Hadithi and several members in the Iraqi leadership on the developments of events in Iraq in light of the escalated American threats to direct a military attack against Iraq aiming at toppling the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. The Jordanian prime minister Ali Abul Ragheb on Sunday denied the existence of any mediation between Amman and Doha in order to contain the recent differences resulting from the al-Jazeera TV channel broadcasting a program which was considered as damaging and insulting for Jordan. Abul Ragheb said there is no mediations as "the matter is between us and Qatar." Go

The Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas said on Saturday that the Kuwaiti deputy premier and minister of the Interior Mohammad Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah paid a short visit to Washington last Tuesday where he met with the director of the CIA George Tenet. Go

The Saudi ministry of the Interior announced on Sunday that the Saudi young man Saud al-Rasheed which the American FBI issued a warrant of arrest against him on the charge of being involved in the attacks of September 11, is currently being investigated by the Saudi authorities. Go

The Israeli warplanes on Sunday renewed its violations of the Lebanese airspace and flew at intermediate altitudes over various Southern Lebanese areas. A Lebanese security source said that the Israeli planes continued their flying until the Bekaa area and the city of Baalbeck. Go

It was announced in Beirut on Saturday the death of the archbishop Muthalath al- Rahmat Bassilious, former bishop of the patriarchy of "Houran and the Arab Mount and Quneitra in Syria for the Greek- Orthodox community. Go
