Syrian customs confiscates boat of smuggled tobacco

The Syrian naval customs on Friday confiscated a boat carrying 238 containers of smuggled foreign tobacco inside the Syrian territorial waters. There were four Lebanese on the board of the boat, who were arrested and brought before the judiciary for trial.
A source at the customs general administration said that the four men had thrown part of the smuggled items into the sea. The value of the confiscated goods is estimated at 15 million Syrian pounds.
Meantime an on foot customs group in Damascus, in the same day, confiscated some 36 smuggled TV sets at a cost of 351,000 Syrian pounds whose custom's fee are 1.8 million Syrian pounds.
Meantime, the smuggling fighting department in Damascus confiscated various smuggle items including tobacco, pencils, ventilators and ceramics at a value of 5.2 million Syrian pounds.
