Al-Watan: a forthcoming Syrian, Egyptian, Saudi summit
Syria-Regional, Politics, 8/26/2002

The Saudi daily al-Watan said in its Sunday's issue that the two messages sent by President Bashar al-Assad to the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and to Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz unveiled stress to convene a tripartite Syrian, Egyptian and Saudi summit in the second half of September.

The paper added quoting well-informed unidentified sources that the two messages concentrated on rejecting any attack against Iraq and a call for coordinating Arab efforts.

The paper explained that the two messages included Syria's rejection to directing a military attack against Iraq and the need to avail enough opportunity for solving problems pending between Iraq and the UN through dialogue, the return back of UN inspectors and rejecting the American pressures practiced against Syria, Egypt and Saudi Arabia in order to change their positions concerning Iraq and the peace process, as well as the call to coordinate stances and efforts concerning the American plans to direct a military attack against Iraq and the implications of such an attack against security and stability in the region.
