King Mohammed visits hospitalized victims injured in fire
Morocco, Local, 8/24/2002

Morocco's King Mohammed VI, who was accompanied by his brother Prince Moulay Rachid, visited Friday the Mohammed V hospital in Casablanca to enquire about the condition of the victims of the fire that broke last Friday at the prison of Souk Larba, some 100 km northeast of Rabat, killing two inmates and injuring more than twenty.

The sovereign enquired about the medical care and treatment dispensed to the victims.

Immediately after the incident, King Mohammed VI had given instructions to the managing board of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Inmates to extend assistance to the victims and to their families.

Members of the Foundation managing board visited the victims' families to extend them the condolences of the sovereign and handed them a financial donation to help them cope with the painful circumstances.

They also visited the Souk Larbaa hospital where 14 of the injured persons were being treated and later on visited 12 victims hospitalized at the Mohammed V hospital in Casablanca.

In view of the serious condition of these victims, the Foundation put at the disposal of the medical team a first batch of drugs worth 300,000 Dirhams (about US$ 30,000).
