The Syrian minister of irrigation Muhammad Mustafa Martieni has started an official visit to Turkey on top of a technical delegation to attend the inauguration of the Turkish Aksha treatment border station and to be acquainted with the irrigation and water projects in Turkey.
The Syrian daily al-Baath said yesterday that the two sides will work "for revitalizing the spirit of cooperation in all fields especially in the fields of irrigation and water, and the exchange of technical and scientific expertise in order to develop financial resources management at the two sides."
During the visit of the Turkish minister of irrigation to Syria in June, the two countries agreed to start the implementation of Ankara protocol signed between the two countries in August 2001 which includes various training programs and "natural protectorates twinning agreements as well as starting work in Tel Abyadh ( Aksha) station to desalinate water coming from the Turkish side to Syria."
