Palestinian groups: continued Intifada is a strategic option

The Palestinian groups on Thursday held a press conference in Damascus in which they stressed attachment to the Palestinian principles and the right of the Palestinian people to resist and continue the Intifada until the legitimate national objectives are achieved and "foiling the Zionist project in the region."

The press conference was attended by member of the national leadership of the Baath Arab Socialist Party Muhammad Khaleifa, the secretaries of the Palestinian resistance groups, the two representatives of the Palestinian people, and democratic fronts for the liberation of Palestine.

The secretary of the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine -- general command -- stressed in the conference the need of forming a political program in order to unify the Palestinian forces under the banner of committing to the Palestinian rights and not to give concessions that will conducive to preventing the realization of these objectives. He stressed that the main base for such a program is to continue the Intifada and the Palestinian national resistance.

For his part, the chairman of the political bureau of the Palestinian national resistance movement, Hamas, stressed that the most effective program by the Palestinian resistance groups is the "resistance program and the need to continue the Intifada as a strategic option for the Palestinian people."

Similar commitment to armed struggle and continued Intifada was also made by the secretary general of the Islamic Jihad Movement Ramadan Shallah.

The leaderships of the Palestinian national resistance held a meeting on Wednesday evening during which it discussed conditions and developments on the Palestinian arena. It issued a statement condemning the "Gaza- Bethlehem First" agreement with Israel and stressed the Palestinian national unity on the ground of the Intifada, the resistance and commitment to the Palestinian principles and the right of the Palestinians to liberation, independence and returning back to their land.
