Some 15 Saudi compensation cases against the American government over defaming
Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 8/23/2002
In retaliation to the judicial trials that were filed before in American courts demanding Saudi Arabian figures and companies in order to receive compensations estimated at 3,000 billion dollars for the victims of the attacks of September 11, a Saudi lawyer decided to file more than 15 cases addressed against US governmental sides and to ask for compensations for physical and psychological compensation for Saudis who were deprived from the right to complete their education in the US and for defaming them in the American mass media.
The Saudi al-Iqtisadeyah paper quoted lawyer Katib Fahd al-Shummari that he had collected the assignments of Saudis who were damaged by the American defamation and will file several cases during the two next months, demanding financial compensations of damages inflicted on his clients.
The Saudi layer said that the compensation cases include students who were deprived from completing their studies and were arrested in the USA and jailed for long times without being charged, following the attacks of September 11 against Washington and New York, as well as those whose names and pictures appeared in the first list of the persons accused in the attacks and were found out later they were then outside the USA.
The lawyer called on the Saudi sides and charity establishments to support him so as to be able to file the cases and assign American lawyers able to contribute to the success of the cases through their media presence and affecting the American public opinion.
Al-Shummari said that there will be no blackmailing for the American sides in comparison of what the Americans are trying to do through the compensation case against Saudi figures, banks and charity societies.
It was stated that some 175 Saudis were arrested for investigations following the attacks against New York and Washington.
The Saudi ambassador in Washington Prince Bandar Bin Sultan in March said that only 11 Saudi detainees are left in the American jails and their conditions are followed up by the embassy.
