Al-Rai al-Am: Criticism over report on human rights in Sudan
Sudan, Politics, 8/20/2002

The Sudanese minister of Justice Ali Othman Yassin has described the criticism made by the special rapparateur for human rights in Sudan Gerhard Bowm in his report about the deterioration of human rights in the country, which he will submit to the international committee on human rights, as not objective and just mere impressions.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Sudanese al-Rai al-Am, Yassin said that the image Bowm had drawn in his report about human rights conditions in Sudan are but an attempt to practice pressure on the government to force it to give concessions in the current negotiations taking place in Nairobi between the Sudanese government and the rebels.

The Sudanese minister of justice added that the special rapparateur of human rights has not seen all positive changes in the country nor followed up the progress in Sudan's relations to the international community and the steps achieved in making peace.
