Sudan and the Halayeb area issue with Egypt
Sudan-Egypt, Politics, 8/20/2002

The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael has stressed that his country will never resort to the UN Security Council nor to the UN in order to file a complaint against Egypt concerning the area of "Halayeb" triangle.

The Halayeb area is a border area that was in the past a point of some dispute between Egypt and Sudan regarding the border lines drawn of the British.

Ismael described what was quoted by certain mass media to this effect of news and information as false and groundless.

This was expressed in a telephone call made on Sunday evening between the secretary general of the Arab League Amr Moussa with the Sudanese foreign minister.

During the telephone conversation Moussa expressed his regret over circulation of such untrue news. He called on the media to be precise when quoting news and not to create unreal stories that might result in problems at a time when the Arab nation is facing unprecedented challenges that require the mobilization of all Arab efforts to withstand them.
