On Jordanian oil imports
Jordan-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 8/19/2002
The Jordanian minister of energy and mineral resources Muhammad al-Bateynah on Sunday denied Jordan to have had contacted Saudi Arabia or any other side in order to discuss the possibility of providing it with oil, in the context of calculations for future conditions in case Iraq is attacked.
In a statement he made on Sunday in Amman al-Bateynah said that Jordan imports all its oil requirements from Iraq and it continues doing this, and does not search for alternatives. He stressed that all agreements signed between the two states are renewed annually. The volume of Iraqi oil exports to Jordan is estimated at 5 million tons annually.
