Al-Nahar: Tension in Ein al-Helweh camp
Lebanon, Local, 8/19/2002

The Lebanese daily al-Nahar said in its Saturday's issue that the situation intensified on Friday in Ein al-Helweh camp, as it witnessed armed appearance for the supporters of both the Fatah movement and "Isbat al-Ansar" group.

The paper quoted in its Saturday's issue Palestinian sources saying that the tension resulted from the entry of members from Fatah to al-Somou' school near al-Taware' ( emergency ) camp where no Isbat al-Ansar members exist.

The paper added that there are rumors that some 15 new members of "al-Takfir and al-Hijra" group, which launched in 2000 battles with the Lebanese army in al-Denyah mountain, had joined their colleagues in Ein al-Helweh. The paper indicated that high ranking Lebanese security sources stressed that three new members of al-Denyah group entered Ein al-Helweh camp wearing civilian costumes.
