The Independent: Assassination attempt on Qusi Saddam Hussein

Iraqi opposition sources in London said that one of its members inside Iraq had opened fire at Qusi, the son of the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, and wounded him in an attempt carried out by a resistance group aiming to assassinate the younger son of the Iraqi president who is speculated to be the likely successor for his father.

These sources explained to the British daily the Independent on Friday that this attempt was made on Qusi procession who was hit in his arm when one armed man opened fire at him August 1 in one of Baghdad's streets.

The sources added that a resistance cell inside Iraq belong to the London-based opposition Iraqi National Congress carried out this operation which was described as brave and reveals the possibility of breaking through the Iraqi security system.

The British paper indicated that no independent confirmation on the occurrence of this operation in Baghdad was heard of.
