Egyptian stock exchange, 27 among emerging peers

Monthly report of Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Trade on capital market performance in last July showed an increase of GDR 1-8 index to record a positive revenue of 0.61 percent, or 41.21 points against 40.97 in June 2002. Also, four Egyptian GDRs listed in London Exchange achieved positive revenues with Al-Ezz for Iron and Steel as the highest with 37 percent.

The report added that during the same month, savings funds incurred average positive revenue of 0.9 percent with the fund of the Egyptian Gulf Bank in the lead in terms of highest revenue with 2.44 percent.

Moreover, most investment funds attained an average of positive revenues of 2.5 percent during the period from January to July 2002. Misr International Bank's Fund achieved the best performance with positive revenues of 9.9 percent, followed by Misr Bank second fund with 6.5 percent.

The report illustrated that Egyptian stock exchange occupied the 27th position among its peers in emerging markets in terms of lowest risk of 1.06 percent.

Bills still have the lion's share with 97.42 percent of total dealings. In addition, treasury bills, April 1999/2009, hit the highest number of transactions with 30.58 percent of total bills dealings and 20 percent of total transactions, according to the report.
