Sudanese reservations over Canadian peace envoy to Sudan
Sudan-Canada, Politics, 8/16/2002
The Sudanese government has expressed reservations over the Canadian government's appointment of a special woman envoy for peace in Sudan without making consultations with it.
In statements to journalists on Wednesday evening, the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael said "Canada has had to make consultations with us before appointing Mobina Jiffer." He questioned how Sudan is expected to approve appointments made by a country without consulting it. He said that appointing Jiffer by the Canadian government last Friday is still under debated in Khartoum.
