UN envoy optimistic about return of Kuwaiti archives from Iraq
Iraq-Kuwait, Politics, 8/15/2002

Richard Fouran, the envoy of the UN secretary general for the Kuwaiti documents and records affairs which were lost during the Gulf war in 1991, on Wednesday in Baghdad praised the Iraqi cooperation in organizing the return of the Kuwaiti national archive. He said he expects the return back of the Kuwaiti archive within weeks.

Fouran stressed, following his meeting with the Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri, that he does not expect the occurrence of any special difficulties as the Iraqi officials have expressed their readiness to cooperate in every possible way.

Fouran described the return of the national archive to Kuwait as a positive step towards normalization of relations between the two states.

Iraq had approved the return of the Kuwaiti records and documents during the talks Iraqi officials held with UN secretary general Kofi Annan in Vienna in July
