Texts on southern provinces development agency, Tangier port complex under scrutiny
Morocco, Economics, 8/10/2002
Morocco's Prime minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, chaired in Rabat Thursday a meeting to study draft laws related to the creation of an Agency for Social and Economic Development of Southern Provinces and on the construction of Tangier's Euro-Mediterranean Port and Economic Complex.
The meeting was held pursuant to the instructions issued by King Mohammed VI to the government last week regarding the speeding up of the creation procedure of the two structures.
It was decided during the meeting to set up a technical committee to finalize the drafts to be submitted to the coming ministerial council and the relevant parliament committees for approval.
Last Tuesday, King Mohammed VI instructed the government to take all urgent and necessary measures for the creation of an Agency for the Development of Southern Provinces.
The king, who was chairing Tuesday in Rabat a ministers' council meeting, issued the same instructions to the government regarding the creation of an instance in charge of the port and Mediterranean compound of Tangier, said Hassan Aourid, Official Spokesman for the Royal Palace.
In the Throne Speech on July 30, King Mohammed VI stressed will to make of the northern and southern provinces a propitious space for investment. "We project to make of these regions a model of an integrated regional development," he said.
