Iraqi opposition leader denies receiving sums from CIA
Iraq, Politics, 8/9/2002

Al-Sharif Ali Bin al-Hussein, who advocates the return of Monarchy to Iraq, and the spokesman for the Iraqi National Congress said on Thursday in Washington that the "congress" did not get sums from the American intelligence ( CIA).

He said that an US military attack against Iraq will most likely not face strong Iraqi resistance. He said that "the whole of Iraq opposes ( the Iraqi President) Saddam Hussein," referring specifically to the Iraqi army.

In a press conference he held at the Press Club in Washington, al-Sharif Bin Ali indicated that the "role of the Iraqi opposition is embodied in toppling Saddam Hussein and liberating Iraq." He stressed he supports the foundation of a constitutional government in Baghdad under a royal rule. Al-Sharif Ali said that the congress will ask the US administration in "one voice" in the meeting to be held today with high ranking officials at the US departments of State and Defense, to change the regime in Baghdad.
