Al- Shara to visit India, Pakistan next week

The Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara will on August 14- 17 visit both India and Pakistan. He will, in India, takes part in its national day and meet in the second with President Pervez Musharraf and hold bilateral talks with him.
Al-Shara's visit is special especially in its timing under the escalated condition between India and Pakistan, the great difference in their understanding of the conflict in the Middle East and their relations with Syria.
According to well-informed sources, al-Shara's visit mainly aims at "taking part in dismantling tension between the two countries" especially in regard to the relations of friendship linking Syria to the two countries, and the membership Syria shares with "India in the non- aligned movement and with Pakistan in the Organization of the Islamic Conference." According to the same sources "Syria is careful to restore back friendly atmospheres between the two countries."
