Morocco renews will to consolidate Rule of Law
Morocco, Politics, 8/7/2002
Morocco renewed Tuesday, before the United Nations' Human Rights Sub-Commission, its "definitive choice" to defend human rights, and voiced resolve to consolidate the rule of law.
Speaking Tuesday before the 54th session of the sub-commission, Ms. Houmane Jalila from Morocco's permanent mission to the U.N. in Geneva, stressed the importance of the ongoing "firm and courageous global political reform," undertaken in Morocco, starting with the most sensitive fields.
Concerning justice administration, top issue of the sub-commission's debates this week, the diplomat pointed out to Morocco's recent set up of an Ombudsman office, named "Diwan Al Madalim," an intermediary between citizens or groups of citizens and authority administrations or bodies.
She also briefed the meeting on Morocco's reorganization of its human rights consultative council, the reform of its judicial system and the ongoing revision of the permanent military tribunal's attributions which aims at limiting its relevance to military persons only.
