Palestine-Israel, Politics, 8/7/2002
The UN General Assembly has called on Israel to withdraw its forces immediately from the Palestinian cities it had occupied before the beginning of the Palestinian Intifada in September 2000.
On Monday, the UN General Assembly adopted with the majority of 114 votes, against opposition of 4 votes including the US and Israel, with 11 absentee, a call on Israel to halt all military acts and the destruction inflicted on the Palestinians.
In its resolution, the UN expressed its deep concern over the continued Israeli occupation of the Palestinian cities in the West Bank and the grave humanitarian situation the Palestinians suffer.
The resolution stressed the need of offering the humanitarian and relief organizations the full liberty to have access to the Palestinian areas.
The countries which voted against the resolution beside Israel and the US are Marshal islands and Micronisia. The countries abstained from voting are Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Honduras, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Romania, Solomon Island and Tonga.
