Omani- Iranian rejection for striking Iraq
Oman-Iran, Politics, 8/5/2002

The Omani minister of state for foreign affairs Youssef Bin Alawi on Sunday started a visit to Iran at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Kamal Kharazi.

In an arrival statement at Tehran's airport, Bin Alawi said he will discuss with high ranking Iranian officials during the visit bilateral relations and means of developing and consolidating them in all fields and latest developments in the region.

The Omani minister stressed his country's rejection and opposition to any attack against any Arab or Islamic state especially Iraq, noting the need of continued consultations with Iran on developments in the region.

Bin Alawi stressed the identical view points between his country and Iran on rejecting and opposing the likely American attack against Iraq. He said "we do not expect the US to play a positive role in the region's crisis especially concerning the Palestinian question."

For his part, Kharazi underlined the importance of developing relations between the two countries and their positive reflections on Iranian- Gulf relations in general, on the ground that Oman currently presides over the current session of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Kharazi said that his Omani counterpart will discuss during this visit the most important issues in the region, especially the Palestinian question and Iraq and the threats launched by the American administration against certain countries of the region.
