Some 60,000 Israelis ask for German nationality

A report by the German embassy in Tel Aviv issued today by the German Der Spiegel magazine says that the number of Israelis seeking the German citizenship tolled 60,000, an unprecedented increase since the official opening of the embassy in 1965.
These German nationality Israeli seekers rely on the German constitution which avails acquiring the German nationality to all Israelis who suffered repression during the Nazi rule.
The magazine quoted the Israeli lawyer Dan Asan as saying that the German nationality for the Jews is a sort of "life insurance" under the continued deteriorated conditions in Israel because of the "suicide operations" and the recession in the economic condition.
