Sudan president to install new governors, ministers
Sudan, Politics, 8/3/2002
Well-informed Sudanese sources said that the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir will make ministerial changes in his government very soon, and make several decisions on exempting and appointing certain rulers to the 26 Sudanese provinces.
The sources said that the decisions, which are based on the enforced emergency law, will state to quit all rulers except those of the southern provinces. The sources expected certain rulers to be alienated ultimately from government's posts, to transfer others and keep many of them. This measure will be followed by a ministerial reshuffle in the governorates of all provinces.
Observers believe that the amendment in the government aims at getting certain allied political forces involved with the government, including the newly split Umma faction, the Mubarak al-Fadel wing, who in July concluded an agreement with the government for taking part in the government.
On the other hand, nine persons were killed including one woman and four members of the security forces and others wounded in armed clashes took place on Thursday in Jouba, the capital of Southern Sudan.
