Five Moroccans drowned among 13 found off southern Spanish coast

Five out of the 13 people who drowned Thursday trying to enter Spain clandestinely are believed to be Moroccans, said a Spanish security source.

The source told MAP there are five men believed to be Moroccans, on the basis of their traits, although they had no identity documents on them. The other victims (five women and three men) could be from sub-Saharan countries.

Spanish coast guards found the bodies floating in the sea close to the small fishing port of Tarifa in southwestern Spain. They are still searching for more bodies in the area and for the vessel used by the 13 victims.

An official at the local government says an autopsy will be conducted to find out the death cause.

The coast guards also announced they have arrested near Tarifa (Spain most extreme southern point) eight Moroccans trying to illegally reach Spanish coasts. It was not clear whether they are part of the same group who died.
