Kuwat: we are ready to face likely developments

On the wake of the 12th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, Kuwait's first deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah stressed that his government takes all necessary measures to withstand possible developments in the region.

In a statement to the official Kuwaiti news agency on Thursday, the Kuwaiti minister said "this painful occasion is sanding before our eyes." For his part, the Kuwaiti army chief of staff Ali al-Moumin expressed Kuwait's readiness to withstand any military risk be it from "traditional or non- traditional weapons." In a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas al, Moumin said that the Kuwaiti forces made training with American, German and Czech in the field of "chemical defense." He indicated that the "German, and Czech forces which are specialized in biological and chemical weapons are still in Kuwait and that there is a possibility for expansion whenever needed."

Replying to a question on the preparedness of the Kuwaiti army to withstand any development at the level of the Iraqi file, al-Moumin said "Our works in the past years concentrated on this effect and all possibilities are taken into account." The Kuwaiti army chief of staff justified the building of a new military base for the American forces in Kuwait that was declared by the Kuwaiti defense minister Sheikh Jaber al- Sabah. Al-Moumin said "there are requirements to build camps in order to meet the requirements of the Kuwaiti army infrastructure.
