Lebanese tragedy as Ahmad Mansour kills 8 of his colleagues
Lebanon, Local, 8/1/2002

The Lebanese Ahmad Mansour on Wednesday killed 8 of his colleagues at the Teachers Union fund in the capital Beirut near the UNESCO's area.

Detailed reports said that "office boy" Ahmad Mansour had prepared the instruments of his crime and entered the building of the Teacher's Union Fund and opened fire at his colleagues, and this resulted in killing the fund's director lawyer Rachael Rahmeh Saadeh and clerks Maria Thabet, Sakina Harqous, Carlos Salameh; Maroun Mousa, Oghit Faghallui, Mousa Shweiri. The director of al-Okhowa (brothers) school, Suleiman Jamous, was also killed. Many others were wounded.

Just few minutes after the massacre, the place was visited by the ministers of education and higher education, the ministry of justice and other officials concerned.

The killer tried to escape among the security men and army forces but he was arrested.

Preliminary investigations about the crime started by the commander of Beirut's police commander and the first investigation judge in Beirut Hatem Madi.

Mansour had borrowed a sum of money from the fund on that he will repay it from his compensation at the national fund for social insurance, but instead he bought a car. This motivated his director and the working staff to urge him to bring back the money especially as he had traveled to Egypt in a site-seeing visit.

Instead of bringing back the money on Wednesday morning, he brought two machine guns and a bomb and opened fire at his colleagues.

The Lebanese attorney general judge Adnan Addoum said, replying to claim that the crime falls under sectarian reasons, that the "reasons are merely materialistic and have no sectarian implications, and the victims are from different sects."
