Jesse Jackson cancels meeting with Sheikh Yassin
Palestine-USA, Politics, 8/1/2002

The spiritual leader of the Hamas Movement, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, announced that the American Rev. Jesse Jackson canceled a meeting with him few hours after an explosion that was claimed by al-Qassam group of the Hamas movement.

A Palestinian source said that the visit of Jackson to Gaza was canceled, although he had already arrived at Beit Hanoun Barrier at the northern entrance of Gaza.

In a statement to AFP, Yassin said that the cancellation was stated by the representative of the church federation in Gaza, the side which organized Rev. Jackson's visit. Yasssin stressed that this measure aims at not enabling the Reverend to see the Palestinian sufferings due to the Israeli aggression, as the Reverend was due to visit the site of the "massacre committed by the Israelis on July 22 at al-Madraj quarters" and resulted in killing the leader of al- Qassam group Salah Shehadah and 17 Palestinians including 9 children.
