Palestine-Israel, Military, 8/1/2002

A Palestinian attack carried out on Wednesday against the Hebrew university in Jerusalem resulted in killing seven persons and wounding other 100, 7 of them in critical health conditions, according to Israeli sources which said that other Israelis collapsed from the shock of the explosion.

The Israeli police said that the operation took place in the cafeteria of the faculty of law at the Hebrew university in al-Eswaeyah area, noting that the Palestinian who committed this suicide operation was able to pass by all the university guards despite the continued state of alert.

Ezz Eddine al-Qassam group, the military wing of the Hamas movement claimed responsibility for the operation, and said that the explosion came as a revenge for the Palestinian children and the shed blood and torn bodies at the hands of the Israeli forces in Gaza.

On Wednesday at dawn, the Israeli forces incurred in Rafah, to the south of Gaza, and demolished houses of several Palestinians and the agricultural lands, opening fire randomly from its heavy machine guns.

The Palestinian sources explained that the Israeli bulldozers incurred into Hay al-Salam ( peace quarters) in Rafah, and asked the citizens to leave their houses, while four Palestinian women were wounded when the Israeli forces bombarded Khan Younis camp. The Palestinian resistance men attacked an Israeli position near Neve Dekalim settlement in Gaza.

The Israeli forces also launched a new detention campaign against the Arab workers in the territories of 1948; this covered 104 of al-Lid and Yafa citizens.

Meantime, the Israeli government ignored calls made by the international community not to expel the families of Palestinian who carry out operations against Israel, and decided to expel relatives of one Palestinian bomber from the West Bank to Gaza.

Meanwhile, the mini Israeli government adopted a field plan aiming at halting the Palestinian resistance operations, but disclosed no details on that plan. The Israeli forces stressed it will continue founding buffer zones with the Palestinian areas in order to maintain what it called security interests.
