Mauritanian president starts trans-saharan road initiative

President Mouaouyia Ould Sid Ahmed Tayaa of Mauritania laid Monday in Nouadhibou the foundation stone of the Nouakchott-Nouadhibou road which is a section of the trans-Saharan road to connect Europe to Africa via Morocco.
The technical studies on the road, worth US$ 2 million, were financed by Morocco and conducted by Moroccan consulting bureaus.
The 470-km long road will be completed over 24 months.
The project worth $ 70 million will be co-financed by the Arab fund for economic and social development, the Islamic Development bank and the Mauritanian state.
