Morrocan party accuses US of supporting Israel in attack on Palestinians
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 7/30/2002
A sit-in was staged Friday in front of the embassy of Palestine in Rabat to voice solidarity with the Palestinian people and denounce the Israeli aggression perpetrated last Monday against Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
The some 300 persons that participated in the sit-in, organized by the Moroccan Justice and Development Party (PJD), denounced "the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation army against the Palestinian people, their territories and their sacred values, in blatant violation of all international laws."
They also denounced "Arab inaction" in the face of the Israeli aggression and the US administration's "connivance" with Israel and its unconditional military and political backing to Tel Aviv. They called for further support to the Palestinian people so that they carry on their struggle for the liberation of their land and the recovery of their rights and dignity.
In an address he made on the occasion, official of the embassy of Palestine in Rabat, Wassef Mansour, said the Israeli air raid against Gaza last Monday is "an American crime" before being "an Israeli crime" since the assassination of Palestinian civilians was perpetrated by a US aircraft and with the "consent" of President George Bush's administration.
The Palestinian diplomat urged Arab states to adopt a stand guaranteeing "a concrete backing to the Palestinian resisters and to the Palestinian people."
Member of the PJD secretariat general, Abdallah Baha, said "Jihad (holy war) is the only means" to free Palestine and put an end to the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation army against the Palestinian people.
Meanwhile, some one hundred persons were staging another sit-in in front of the UN representation in Rabat in solidarity with the Palestinians.
Participants in this sit-in who were waving Palestinian flags chanted slogans condemning the Israeli violence in the Palestinian territories, the Israeli bloody air raid of last Monday as well as the US backing to the Israeli policy.
They called the UN to take moves to protect the Palestinian people.
The sit-in was sponsored by the local committee of support to the Palestinian people that musters several human rights ngos and associations.
