Sudanese messages to Libya, Egypt, Syria
Sudan-Regional, Politics, 7/29/2002

Libya's Leader of the Revolution Colonel Muammar al Qathafi on Sunday received a message from the Sudanese President Hassan al-Bashir explaining the content of the agreement concluded with John Garang, leader of Sudan's southern rebels, in order to achieve reconciliation in Sudan.

This was made during the meeting held between Qathafi on Saturday with the Sudanese minister of information al-Mahdi Ibrahim, currently visiting Libya, as a personal envoy from al-Bashir.

The Sudanese minister informed Qathafi about al-Bashir's request "to continue the Libyan efforts aimed at establishing pillars of peace and stability in Sudan."

The Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received the secretary general of the Sudanese national congress Ibrahim Ahmad Omar. The Syrian official news agency SANA said that al-Assad listened from the Sudanese delegation to "explanation on latest developments in Sudan, especially the agreement concluded recently in southern Sudan." The Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam received the said Sudanese official. The advisor of the Sudanese president for political affairs Qatb al-Mahdi in Amman called for "Arab support" to Khartoum in the "battle for peace in southern Sudan" in order to convince its people not to separate from northern Sudan.

Meantime, the Sudanese Vice President Ali Othman Taha started on Sunday a visit to Cairo in order to brief Egyptian officials of the efforts made by his country's government to end the war.
