Mubarak briefs al-Shara on efforts to halt Israel's aggression

Egypt's President Honi Mubarak yesterday at his residence in Madrid received the Syrian deputy prime minister and foreign minister Farouk al-Shara. The meeting was attended by the deputy foreign minister Suleiman Haddad and the Syrian ambassador in Madrid Mohsin Bilal for the Syrian side, while the Egyptian side was attended by foreign minister Ahmad Maher. Al-Shara conveyed to President Mubarak President Bashar al-Assad's greetings.
Al-Shara learnt from Mubarak on the results of his visit to Paris and his meeting with the French officials.
Maher who attended the meeting between Mubarak and al-Shara said "when we went to Washington and met with US Secretary of State Colin Powell and then President George W. Bush, we heard a new language. This language should not necessarily be translated into policies but we would rather work on translating these words into actions." He added that there are some powers in the United States who are working against peace and hindering efforts to realize it.
SANA reported that discussions dealt with the drastic conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories and the recent Israeli "crime" in Gaza adding, Mubarak reviewed with al-Shara the Arab efforts made to halt "the Israeli continued aggression against the unarmed Palestinians and the need of revitalizing the Arab peace initiative approved by the recent Beirut Arab summit held in March this year "
President Mubarak stressed the deep Syrian- Egyptian relations and the importance of continued consultations between the two states.
